This collaborative programme with National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad was attended by more than 100 participants including agricultural extension workers, scientists, research scholars and farmers from all over the country.
The purpose of the programme was to enhance awareness and educate the trainees about carbon credits—tradable certificates that represent the reduction or removal of one metric ton of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere—and how various sustainable agricultural practices/technologies can generate these credits.
During this three-day programme, through interactive sessions and expert-led presentations, participants learnt about the basics of carbon credits, different carbon sequestration technologies for agriculture, validation and verification processes involved and practical steps to develop carbon credit projects.
Scientists from various reputed institutions delivered sessions and covered different aspects of the topic. Participants were particularly engaged in discussions about soil carbon, agro-forestry, conservation tillage, and other practices that enhance carbon capture while improving productivity and resilience. Examples of successful carbon credit projects were also shared among the trainees to get the practical insights of the subject.
The trainees expressed their positive feedback about the programme and emphasized that carbon credits in agriculture sector can promote climate resilience and green finance in the agriculture sector.
