
Punjab Agricultural Management & Extension Training Institute (PAMETI) organized a 3 day training on “Goat Rearing, Management & Value addition” on 4-6 March, 2025 under RKVY. The training was attended by 25 farmers from various districts of Punjab. Training was held in collaboration with the Directorate of Extension Education, GADVASU, Ludhiana. Different scientists from the university discussed topics such as identification of the goat breeds, their housing, feeding and reproductive management. Exposure visits to Goat farm, Model Dairy Plant and IFS model were also conducted in GADVASU and PAU respectively for practical learning.
Earlier, Dr. K.B. Singh, Director, PAMETI inaugurated the training. Speaking on the occasion, he explained the benefits of goat farming to the farmers. He said that goat farming can be a profitable and sustainable subsidiary occupation for farmers. It complements traditional farming, provides additional income from different sources (milk, meat, fiber), and requires relatively low input for management.
During the valedictory session, Dr. Harmeet Kaur, Dy. Director-BM, PAMETI, coordinator of the programme, congratulated all farmers for successful completion of the training. She motivated them to diversify their income and reduce risks associated with monoculture by adopting goat farming. Farmers appreciated the practical knowledge provided to them by the scientists, They thanked the organizers for their efforts.
