
Punjab Agricultural Management & Extension Training Institute (PAMETI), Ludhiana successfully organized a three-day training program on “Agro-tourism: An Emerging Agri Venture” from October 27 to 29, 2025. The program aimed to create awareness and build entrepreneurial capacity among farmers and rural youth to diversify farm income through agro-tourism ventures.The training was coordinated by Dr. Harmeet Kaur, with active participation from farmers, farm women, agri-entrepreneurs, and extension personnel across various districts of Punjab.
The program was inaugurated by Dr. K.B. Singh, Director, PAMETI, who emphasized that agro-tourism represents a new growth avenue for Punjab’s farming community. He highlighted how linking agriculture with tourism can strengthen rural economies, preserve traditional culture, and provide sustainable income to farmers.
Over the three days, participants were exposed to several expert-led sessions and a field visit to Hansali Organic Farms, Fatehgarh Sahib. Dr. Harmeet Kaur delivered a session on Global and Indian Trends in Agro-Tourism, sharing successful case studies from across the country.Dr. R.K. Dhaliwal elaborated on Agro-Tourism Concepts and Opportunities, guiding participants on business potential and value addition.Dr. B.S. Lakhewali explained Infrastructure Planning and Safety Standards, focusing on layout design, sanitation, and safety norms essential for farm-stay operations.
An exposure visit was conducted during the training to give ahands-on experience to the participant by observing a working model of organic and farm-based tourism.
Participants lauded the program for its hands-on approach, rich interactions with experts, and exposure to successful agro-tourism models. The event ended on an upbeat note as certificates were awarded to participants, marking the beginning of a new journey toward entrepreneurial innovation in Punjab’s countryside.
